UK: Citadines has achieved EDGE certification at its second aparthotel in London as Ascott pushes its sustainable pathway across the extended stay brand.
The Ascott Limited’s Citadines Islington, which offers 108 apartments, will save 42 per cent on energy, 28 per cent on water and 98 per cent on ‘less embodied energy in materials’ according to the EDGE report after retrofits were made.
The work to roll out EDGE certification – a green building standard – across all its Citadines London aparthotels is part of a wider company initiative to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
Citadines Islington London is the newest property in the brand’s London portfolio. Early this year, Citadines Holborn also received EDGE accreditation reducing energy by 36 per cent. Citadines Barbican is next in line to achieve the certification.
The retrofit strategy to improve the energy efficiency of the Islington property included installing energy efficient cooling systems, improved internal wall insulation, new windows with improved thermal energy retention, low flow taps, shower heads, high efficiency A/C system, and 100 per cent LED lighting.
Frédéric Carré, regional general manager UK, Germany, Belgium, Georgia & Spain said: “The Edge green building standard focuses on data, which we can use for our sustainability reporting and to map out our progress in achieving net zero goals.
“This is one of many sustainable initiatives, Ascott is undertaking to improve its environmental impact across its building portfolio and will contribute by ensuring we are saving as much energy as possible and retrofitting our older buildings to come up to today’s standards.”
Citadines recently started installing Room Energy Management Systems (REMS) at all its London properties.
