UK: The Social Hub will open its first hotel in the UK with the launch of its Glasgow property tomorrow.
This will be the 18th hub for the Amsterdam-based company, which was founded in 2012 by Edinburgh-born entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor.
Other hubs are located in some of Europe’s key cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Florence, Madrid, Vienna and most recently – San Sebastián which was inaugurated earlier this year.
The Social Hub Glasgow, will employ more than 80 local people and is located in the Merchant City District.
The £90 million development features a combination of 494 hotel, student and extended stay rooms and spaces with the aim to welcome “a diverse community can come to learn, stay, work and play.”
The property also offers co-working spaces for up to 222 people daily with flexible memberships and dedicated desks, 20 private offices, meeting and event spaces, an auditorium, a gym, a restaurant and a bar.
The venue will also offer a busy schedule of curated purpose-driven events and workshops.
The Social Hub Glasgow will launch with its own tartan designed in partnership with sustainable fashion designer Siobhan Mackenzie. Touches of tartan will be found throughout the rooms and bespoke tartan items will be available to purchase from The Social Hub.
The hotel is also working with local suppliers including; Dear Green a local B Corp coffee business, Brewgooder which aims to grant funds to empower communities and one million people by 2030, and Vinca Wine which offers organic wine in 100 per cent recyclable cans.
The Social Hub is in 23 locations, including 18 hotels and over 10,000 rooms currently operating in Amsterdam (two hubs), Barcelona, Berlin, Bologna, Delft, Eindhoven, Florence, Glasgow (opening April 12 2024), Groningen, Maastricht, Madrid, Paris, Rotterdam, San Sebastián, The Hague, Toulouse, and Vienna.
Five hubs are currently in development and opening in 2024 in Porto & Florence Belfiore, Rome in 2025, and Lisbon and Turin further ahead.
