UK: Green Tourism, the sustainability certification for the tourism and hospitality sector, has formed a strategic partnership with the UK’s technology platform for travel entrepreneurs, Travel Counsellors.
The collaboration aims to help Travel Counsellors’ direct contract hotels to gain Green Tourism’s internationally recognised sustainability certification.
Green Tourism’s standard, is recognised by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC), and is also now compliant with the Travalyst coalition criteria, which aims to create industry alignment and consistency in the sustainability certifications shown on travel booking platforms.
You can read more about that below and about the issue of sustainable certifications here.

Travel Counsellors’ August 2024 Travel Tracker report recently revealed that 45 per cent of holidaymakers surveyed said that coverage of the climate crisis has made them consider more sustainable travel options.
The new initiative offers hotels and hospitality businesses who partner with Travel Counsellors a comprehensive sustainability roadmap towards earning Green Tourism’s certification, led by sustainability consultancy Mission: Net Zero.
Joe Whittle, sustainability lead at Travel Counsellors, said: “Our partnership with Green Tourism reflects our commitment to supporting our partners in adopting best practices that protect the environment and enhance the sustainability of the travel experiences we offer as we continue our journey to more sustainable travel.”
