UK: Village Hotel Club which has partnered with IONITY has started installing the ultra-rapid charging points across its portfolio.

The partnership which was agreed last year means 380 IONITY chargers will be installed at Village’s 33 hotels by the end of next year.

So far IONITY has installed the first 12 EV charging points at the Village Hotel Club in Coventry and the hotel group expects nine more sites to be live by the end of this year.

The chargers are for all vehicle types and offer up to 350kWh which means EV drivers can recharge up to 80 per cent of their electric vehicle in under 10-15 minutes.

All chargers will be powered exclusively by renewable electricity sourced from wind, solar, or hydroelectric energy.

Kelli Turner, general counsel and director of ESG at Village Hotel Club, said: “At Village, we’re proud to play a role in supporting this shift through the installation of ultra–rapid chargers across our estate.”

The EV chargers are available to anyone using Village Hotel services, including members of the public who use the gym, the coffee shop and the co-working space VWorks.

As part of its Environment pillar, Village is working to minimise its carbon footprint, from optimising its building management systems to save energy, to switching to renewable gas and electricity, to create more sustainable spaces for guests to stay, play, train and work.

“The IONITY partnership is a key part of Village Green, Village Hotel Club’s ESG and sustainability strategy. Under Village Green, the Group aims to have a positive impact on the communities it operates in, both environmentally and socially,” Turner added.

Andreas Atkins, country manager UK & Ireland, IONITY said: “Ultra-rapid charging is a foundation of the EV revolution across the UK, making EV driving easier and more accessible than ever before.”

IONITY plans to more than quadruple the number of publicly available stations and charging points in the UK by 2025.

“Together, we can establish long-distance travel with electric vehicles as the new normal – no matter what EV you drive, and contribute to a wider, greener transformation across the country and accelerate sustainable mobility across Europe.”

The Government plans for 80 per cent of all new cars sold from 2030 to be electric. In October we reported that RAW Charging had partnered with HOSPA.
