CityHub certified B Corp

EUROPE: Urban lifestyle hotel brand CityHub has been certified B Corporation (B Corp).

CityHub was founded by college friends Sem Schuurkes and Pieter van Tilburg, who wanted to create a hotel experience that met the evolving needs of modern travellers.

Beginning with CityHub Amsterdam in 2015, CityHub has opened new hotels in Rotterdam and Copenhagen, with Reykjavik set to open later this year.

The group’s aim is to reinvent how urban spaces in cities are used to ensure a smart use of space and a more responsible stay.

CityHubs are built into repurposed, previously-vacant buildings, cutting down both the emissions and community disruption associated with the construction of a new building. In converting existing buildings, CityHub reduces the CO2 emissions of its travellers and each guest’s carbon footprint is 89 per cent lower than it would be in a traditional hotel in Europe.

CityHub joins a global community of more than 8,000 B Corps across 160 industries and 101 countries.

Sem Schuurkes, founder of CityHub said: “Gaining B Corp status is the result of much hard work and dedication from our entire team – we all truly believe that CityHub is, and should be, a force for good in the hospitality industry and in each of our cities.

We will all continue to strive for the high standards that this achievement represents.”

B Corp Certification is awarded by B Lab, a nonprofit organisation that assesses companies to ensure they meet standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
