ASIA PACIFIC: Alila Hotels & Resorts has rolled out the Giving Bag recycling and donation solution at 14 properties across Asia Pacific.
Giving Bag currently operates in 15 countries with brands including Four Seasons, Six Senses, Taj Hotels and Oetker Collection, enabling hotels to collect guests’ and properties’ unwanted items and donate them to nonprofits and community organisations.
According to Giving Bag data, 25 per cent of hotels’ lost and found items have in fact been left behind on purpose.
Guests at participating Alila properties can now deposit unwanted clothing, shoes, books, single-use hotel items and selected lifestyle accessories into the Giving Bag in their room.
The bags are then collected by staff and delivered to “hand-selected organisations benefiting the surrounding neighbourhood” and once emptied the Giving Bags are returned to rooms ready for the next guest.
The partnership currently covers 14 Alila properties in China, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Oman and Malaysia, with other regions set to follow in the future.
Commenting on the news Giving Bag co-founder and CEO Quinn Cox, said: “We are proud to deepen our relationship with Hyatt in expanding the adoption of Giving Bag to Alila brand hotels around the world.
“The passion and creativity of Alila helps further reinforce the meaningful positive impact it can have on local communities, as well as our environment, by connecting gently used items with those in need rather than unnecessarily going to landfill.”
Alila Hotels & Resorts joined Hyatt’s portfolio in 2018 following the group’s acquisition of lifestyle hotel management company Two Roads Hospitality and the brand operates a total of 18 hotels, all of which are located in the countries listed above, aside from three US properties in California.
The Giving Bag initiative is part of Hyatt’s World of Care programme, the group’s “global approach to advancing care for the planet, people and responsible business”.
The most recent World of Care annual report was published in summer 2023.
