GERMANY: Radisson Hotel Group has opened the Radisson Blu Hotel at Porsche Design Tower Stuttgart, which is looking to achieve a Gold-level certificate from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).
The DGNB system is in line with the criteria of the EU taxonomy (which we talked about earlier this month) so that proof of compliance can be provided in parallel with certification.
The hotel is aiming for Gold level – which is one below the top status of Platinum.
The Radisson Blu Hotel at Porsche Design Tower Stuttgart will operate in line with the group’s target to achieve Net Zero by 2050 by using 100 per cent renewable electricity and district heating for water and space heating. District heating is when you taking energy released as heat from other energy sources and connect that heat to energy consumers through a system of insulated pipes. It’s a low carbon way of heating.
The hotel group, which is a member of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council and also a co founder of the Hospitality Alliance for Responsible Procurement which launched this year, has opened the new hotel on the top floors (12–23) of The Porsche Design Tower Stuttgart.
The iconic building uses FSC-certified wood, which focuses on promoting sustainable forestry and improving social, ecological, and economic standards and the hotel will promote sustainable mobility, offering chargers for electric vehicles and bicycles available on site.
Stuttgart, the capital of the southern German state of Baden-Württemberg, is known as the home of the automotive giants Porsche and Mercedes-Benz.
