WORLDWIDE: The Leading Hotels of the World (LHW) has launched a new collection recognising properties which demonstrate excellence in environment, community and cultural practices.
The Sustainability Leaders Collection initially includes 56 hotels, all of which have achieved at least one Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) accredited certification or certification to a GSTC-Recognised Standard.
LHW has partnered with Vireo Srl (a GSTC-Accredited Certification Body) as well as Green Globe, Green Key Global, and Travelife (all of which use a GSTC-recognised standard) to offer member hotels resources and tools to advance their sustainability strategies.
The website shows a Sustainability Leader badge against each participating hotel and properties included in the collection include The Dylan Amsterdam, Carlton Hotel St Moritz, The Okura Tokyo, Baglioni Resort Maldives, and One&Only The Palm Dubai. See more about each property and the full list of hotels here.
Aside from achieving certification, LHW said that all Sustainability Leaders hotels must maintain a sustainability management plan, as well as demonstrate their commitment through actions and impact against the three pillars of Environment, Community and Culture.
Independent hotel collections are increasingly adding ways for customers to search for properties which are recognised for their sustainability practices.
In April this year the Global Hotel Alliance – which comprises around 800 properties across brands including Corinthia, Pan Pacific, Kempinski and Anantara – launched The Green Collection.
The collection includes around 200 hotels, all of which have received at least one certification from an internationally-recognised environmental organisation.
