ITALY: Hybrid hospitality and community pioneer The Social Hub is opening its new offering in Italy’s capital, Rome on Monday.
The €114 million, 24,000 square metre complex in Rome’s San Lorenzo district will be the fourth hub to open in Italy.
The new hub will offer a four-star hotel with coworking, dining outlets, meeting and events spaces and a large public park.
The opening on Monday, marks The Social Hub’s first move into the Italian capital, and follows the recent opening of The Social Hub Florence Belfiore, its second in the city, and The Social Hub Bologna.
As a Certified B Corporation, The Social Hub has also weaved its social and sustainable values throughout the development. The building has been recognised for its high environmental standards as BREEAM Excellent and more than 50 new local employees will create more than 600 community events a year via collaborations with San Lorenzo – and the city’s – creative and entrepreneurial innovators.
The Social Hub Rome will also be home to scholarship recipients from the TSH Talent Foundation, which helps empower changemakers facing barriers to opportunity.
Building on the location’s heritage, The Social Hub has designed three buildings, all connected by a 10,000 square metre public park with more than 300 trees (opening in late Spring).
The first building is a newly built, 396-room four-star hotel which offers short and extended stay accommodation for travellers and students as well as coworking area for 160 professionals and meeting & event spaces for up to 70 guests.
The second building is a restructured indoor-outdoor event venue that used to form part of the original 1920s customs house. It will have the capacity for hundreds of guests to experience music, art, vintage markets and more.
The third building, also part of the historic structure, is now home to Accademia Italiana, a design and applied arts institute with more than 1,000 students.
Charlie MacGregor, founder & CEO of The Social Hub said: “This is a major moment for The Social Hub, for Rome, particularly for the San Lorenzo area. When we started The Social Hub movement, our aim was to create unique and special places that bring people to communities and neighbourhoods and help them to grow and thrive. This project embodies that to the letter.
“What was once a completely abandoned site, is now a dynamic hub for innovation and community building, one that has an open-door policy for all, no matter who you are – all that is needed is a willingness to connect with individuals who share a vision of making the cities where we live a better place for all.”
