WORLDWIDE: Palladium Hotel Group has provided an update on its Palladium Cares CSR programme, which launched in May last year.
The programme is built around the three pillars of Our People, Our Community and Our Planet, and the group is midway through what it is calling “a great project to change the world”, under the name ‘4 Causes to take Action’.
The first phase of this project – Protecting Children – was completed in summer 2023, followed by the second phase – Reducing Inequality – in autumn last year.
The group says it has now completed the third phase of the project – Caring for the Planet – with initiatives including an environmental awareness workshop at the group’s Only YOU Hotel in Valencia, and a circular economy initiative at the Hard Rock Hotel Tenerife, which sees kitchen biowaste transformed into compost which is then either used onsite or packaged for use by local farmers.
Also on the environmental front Palladium said that 100 per cent of the energy consumed in its hotels across Europe, Mexico and Brazil now comes from renewable sources, while globally this figure has risen to 72 per cent.
So far the 4 Causes to take Action project has seen the launch of 73 initiatives in collaboration with 40 local NGOs, positively impacting 1,200 individuals and the environment, and involving nearly 500 volunteers.
The fourth and final phase of the project will now run until June of this year, and will focus on care for the elderly.
The Spanish hotel group also said that it had signed a collaboration agreement with the Origen Foundation in Mexico to launch a professional educational and family support centre.
The centre will offer 12 courses for hotel staff and local residents focusing on the development of specific professional skills, as well as health and emotional management.
Commenting on the news Gloria Juste, director of corporate social responsibility at Palladium Hotel Group, said:
“These collaborations have allowed both the volunteers from Palladium Hotel Group and the members of the aforementioned foundations to learn and apply various environmental techniques, not only to strengthen the ties between different sectors of society, but also to contribute to the environment and to develop the practical skills of participants.
“Our first objective for the professional educational and family centre in Mexico is to provide access for our hotel employees and their families, recognising the role of the family environment in their personal and professional development. Likewise, we also invite other families and those from nearby communities who wish to receive the useful professional training.”
