THE NETHERLANDS: Conscious Hotels is adding to its portfolio with a fifth property, which will open in Utrecht next spring.
Located at the Tivoli Oudegracht, known for hosting legendary concerts like Pearl Jam in 1992 and Prince’s surprise show in 1998 the 46-room boutique hotel is right in the centre of Utrecht.
The sympathetic refurbishment of the heritage building will see the original fireplaces kept in some of the rooms as well as the stained glass windows in the lobby.
The interior has been designed with recycled and upcycled furniture and food served at the hotel will be exclusively vegetarian and organic products. Solar panels are also being installed and the building will be upgrading its energy label to A+.
Marco Lemmers, co-founder and CEO of Conscious Hotels: ‘We are going to realise a beautiful eco-sexy boutique hotel in this Utrecht monument that the city will be proud of. Utrecht had been on our wish list for a long time. This bustling and fast-growing, sustainable city with a beautiful historic city centre is attractive for both leisure and business guests.”
Founded in 2009, the group currently has four hotels in Amsterdam: Conscious Hotel Museum Square, Conscious Hotel Vondelpark, Conscious Hotel Amsterdam City (The Tire Station) and Conscious Hotel Westerpark.
The addition of the Utrecht hotel is the next step in the group’s ambitious expansion plan. After onboarding NIPA Capital in 2022 (which has a 75 per cent stake in the group), and with the acquisition of Hotel V & The Lobby in 2023, Conscious Hotels is moving towards its goal of reaching 2,500 sustainable keys across Europe by 2030.
We recently reviewed another sustainable hotel in The Netherlands, the Social Hub Amsterdam City.
