UK: Hyatt Place London City East has completed its independent Omnevue assessment on ESG, and has revealed what it wants to achieve this year.
Omnevue, an ESG reporting platform, connects to a company’s financial, HR, and other data sources before collecting, analysing and generating reports aligned with international accounting standards.
The platform is useful for hotels as, in line with new regulations, such as CSRD which came into force in January, businesses will have to report on the carbon emissions of their value chains – and hotels will need to be able to provide their emissions data to those businesses as part of any RFP process.
Key points from the hotel’s Omnevue assessment found:
- Data from 2023 included a significant reduction to its scope 1 and 2 CO2e year on year;
- Fair pay and benefits above London Living wage benchmarks;
- Successfully enriching the team through gender diversity;
- Successfully deploying governance policies including a Net Zero plan aligned to its ESG goals.
Michael Mason-Shaw, general manager Hyatt Place London City East said: “We believe that saying you are supporting sustainability and social governance doesn’t quite cut it anymore. So we’ve proven it.”
In an interview last year Mason-Shaw explained that the hotel would be working with Omnevue after being part of the GRESB platform for two cycles and seeing that the hotel still needed more infrastructure around its reporting.
He went on to reveal that after the Omnevue assessment the hotel’s goals for this year included: a focus on the hotel supply chain to reduce Scope 3 CO2e, to collate more diversity data to further support and promote equality in the workplace and to enhance the circularity programmes, and deploy the hotel’s own biodiversity plan.
Mason-Shaw added: “Working with Omnevue was an easy choice, reporting financial-grade, auditable ESG data and complying with all the ESG regulations was a key priority for us.
“We also loved that the platform enabled us to track insights about our hotel, with their support we’ve highlighted areas of improvement to help deploy an action plan to decrease CO2e and save operational costs.”
We interviewed Michael Mason-Shaw recently about the hotel’s sustainability efforts and ESG across the sector. Read more below.
