WORLDWIDE: All-inclusive holiday resort company, Club Med, has partnered with the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (the Alliance).

Since 2018 around 70 per cent of new or majorly renovated Club Med resorts have been built to globally recognised BREEAM standards.

Most resorts also have Green Globe certifications – recently Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda was awarded its first certification and Green Globe has certified 80 per cent of Club Med resorts.

In 2020, four resorts were awarded Platinum status (10 years of continuous certification) and four achieved Gold status (5 years of continuous certification). Club Med Michès Playa Esmeralda is the newest member in the growing list of properties dedicated to sustainable practices.

The group also has a “Bye Bye Plastic” programme, aimed at eliminating single-use plastic from its resorts. Check out our piece on single-use plastic and hotels below.

Gregory Lanter, chief development, construction & property officer, said: “As we embark on the acceleration of our CSR strategy, we are thrilled to join the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance.

“Joining the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance signifies our commitment to fostering sustainability in the hospitality sector. We look forward to actively contributing to the alliance’s initiatives and engaging with industry colleagues to exchange insights and best practices.”

CEO of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance, Glenn Mandziuk said: “Club Med’s sustainable credentials are widely acknowledged in the industry, and their innovation and sustainable practices will undoubtedly contribute to our five-year strategy to realise Net Positive Hospitality.”
