WORLDWIDE: Hospitality software company, eviivo, has released its travel trends for 2024 including a section on immersive sustainability.

Based on internal data and reports from its partners, such as Booking.com, key insights reveal a shift in guest behaviour, futuristic technology and a high demand for sports and music tourism.

Michele Fitzpatrick eviivo CEO said: “2024 will be nothing like years past. We’re out of the shadow of the pandemic, and those who work in hospitality have more optimism about their businesses as the industry rapidly grows.”

Immersive sustainability was one of the key changes cited in the report, including a stronger effort from properties offering activities that give back to nature — but also allow guests to immerse in its initiatives.

For example, many oceanside properties have increased programmes where guests can collaborate with locals to create marine reserves, or properties such as Edinburgh’s Rachel’s Farm offering a reforestation programme for those staying.

According to Statista, the online travel market worldwide reached the $433.2 billion mark in 2021, and it’s expected to reach $690.71 billion by 2026.

Travel companies would also be wise to respond to the increasing demand for sustainability from their customers. Hilton reported 74 per cent travellers find it important to minimise their environmental footprint, while Marriott’s recent forecast reported 77 per cent of respondents want to visit environmentally friendly destinations.

This year eviivo will also work with partner Devitech to install EV chargers at hotels, holiday rentals and other properties. “The demand for electric vehicles has been high for 2023, so much that places are “racing” to install chargers”, eviivo said.
